In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Hanscom Field in Bedford was Boston’s alternative commercial airport. After a decade without an airline, Southern has brought daily scheduled air service back to Bedford. Visitors who choose to experience Bedford before their flight to Nantucket will find no shortage of activities, restaurants, and top-notch accommodations.

The first United States flag to fly during the Revolutionary War is on display at Bedford Free Public Library. The flag is protected from heat, light, and humidity in a specialized room. The public can gain access to the Flag Room after providing identification or posting a security deposit. A cultural melting pot, seven of the top ten restaurants in Bedford feature Indian, Japanese, or Italian cuisines. For the hungry visitors in a rush, stop by the Bedford House of Roast Beef, which has been a family-owned local favorite since opening its doors over 35 years ago.
