In the Laurel Mountain range of Southwestern Pennsylvania lies the City of Johnstown. Once a booming steel town in the 1800’s, today Johnstown is a progressive community that is proud of its history and heritage. The sprawling downtown area is speckled with local storefronts, restaurants, and taverns. Surrounded by higher ground, the center-city sits in a valley. Driving to the top of the mountain is one way to experience a scenic overlook of the city; the other (and much more unique way of doing so) is to ride the Johnstown Incline Plane, which is the steepest vehicular incline plane in the world. Now a tourist attraction, the incline was built after the devastating flood of 1889. In its heyday the incline carried over 1,000,000 passengers a year from the residential areas atop the mountain to downtown Johnstown.
