Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is located in the Pocono Mountains, which is home to the Montage Mountain Ski Resort. From bunny slopes to double-black diamonds, this 400-acre ski resort hosts the second steepest slope on the east coast. In summer, the resort transforms itself into a massive water park featuring adrenaline-soaked slides, a giant wave pool, and a winding lazy river.
Scranton is known as America’s “Electric City.” The name comes from being the first city to successfully use trolley cars for public transportation. As a result of that accomplishment, one of the area’s most popular attractions is the Electric City Trolley Museum. Located in a refurbished 19th century mill, the interactive museum houses antique trolley cars and offers live trolley rides to nostalgic visitors.
For sports fans, the triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, the RailRiders, and the minor league affiliate to the Pittsburgh Penguins both call Wilkes-Barre/Scranton home.
